How are municipal offices’ work arrangements changing? We interviewed officials from all ten York Region municipalities about their remote work experiences and their plans for a post-pandemic workplace.

Document Highlights

Currently, all municipalities in York Region plan to offer some level of flexible work arrangements to their employees.

Municipalities are unique in that they operate various lines of business, making it impossible to provide all employees with the same type of remote work options.

Municipalities used the pandemic as an opportunity to digitize customer service processes, allowing greater accessibility and convenience.

Building and maintaining workplace culture is the top HR issue in a hybrid model.

In a remote or hybrid work environment, it’s vital to develop a performance management strategy that evaluates results and accountability instead of the amount of time employees work.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Organizations should customize these proposed recommendations to best suit the unique needs of their employees and business strategies.
