Value-based procurement (VBP) is an advanced approach to purchasing that addresses the challenging problem of how to improve patient care and outcomes while containing healthcare costs. Setting the Stage: The Status of Value-Based Procurement in Canada is the first part of a research series conducted by The Conference Board of Canada.
The Conference Board of Canada established the Centre for Value-Based Healthcare Canada, (VBHC CanadaTM) in partnership with its valued members and key stakeholders. The Centre is an independent, pan-Canadian initiative that brings together healthcare stakeholders from Canada and the world to help reach consensus on the priorities for value-based system transformation in service of improving patient outcomes and building more resilient health systems.
The Centre is engaging with an advisory board of pan-Canadian leaders to elevate the topic of value-based procurement (VBP) as a key element of applied value-based healthcare (VBHC) efforts in Canada. Setting the Stage: The Status of Value-Based Procurement in Canada is the first part of a research series conducted by the Conference Board. Further research (parts 2 and 3) will support leaders in government, the healthcare sector, and industry with tools and focused recommendations to propel value-based approaches to procurement.
