To gauge how the economic environment is affecting pay decisions, The Conference Board of Canada conducted a Compensation Planning Outlook 2018 Mid-Year Pulse Check survey in December 2017. The survey was sent to the 324 organizations that responded to the Conference Board’s Compensation Planning Outlook 2018 survey (conducted over the summer of 2017). A total of 205 organizations replied to the mid-year survey, representing a response rate of 63.3 per cent. The results show that current projected salary increases are in line with what was originally projected in the summer of 2017.

The current and upcoming increases to the minimum wage in Ontario and Alberta are expected to have a significant impact on payroll for several industries in Canada. Therefore, the 2018 Mid-Year Pulse Check survey asked about the types of changes that organizations are contemplating because of the increases. The responses can be found in this report
