Document Highlights

A highly engaged workforce has been a top priority for organizations for decades. Therefore, most Canadian organizations measure engagement, and the majority use some form of employee engagement surveys. But not all organizations measure engagement in the same way. A total of 227 Canadian organizations participated in our fiscal 2020 HR Metrics survey and 70.0 per cent of organizations reported using an engagement survey, or similar tool, to measure engagement and satisfaction. However, there are a variety of employment engagement measures and there is no industry standard. Trends of engagement over time, and differences and similarities between industry, region, and organization size are discussed. The briefing also reports the overall numbers on the levels of engagement, and the proportion of the workforce that is highly engaged and disengaged – but with some limitations. Lastly, the briefing examines the seven workplace factors that The Conference Board of Canada found impacted employee engagement.
