This bimonthly publication from the Canadian Tourism Research Institute features articles that outline key trends for the travel industry.
Document Highlights
Key Trends for the Travel Industry — China’s growing appetite for travel, particularly to long-haul destinations, has increased significantly. However, Chinese travel agencies cannot promote or sell leisure tours to countries, such as Canada, that are not officially approved destinations, a status granted only by the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA). The competition between countries to capture a growing share of the Chinese travel market is heating up. This article outlines that although approval is difficult to acquire, the tremendous potential financial benefits are considered well worth the trouble.
Today’s On-line Travel Market Only Tip of the Iceberg — While the overall on-line travel market seems to be cooling off, on-line travel bookings continue to rise steadily, particularly in Canada. At the same time, high-speed Internet access, a necessary component of on-line purchasing for consumers who are becoming increasingly Internet-savvy, is expanding rapidly. This article looks at this sizable reservoir of untapped potential for Canadian travel operators and at the trends and technologies that will feed this potential.
