In this report, we look at Canadian households’ expectations for inflation over the next year and next three years. Nearly half of Canadians expect inflation above 3.0 per cent over the next twelve months, while slightly fewer expect it to be within a range of 1.0 to 3.0 per cent. The proportion is slightly higher for those expecting inflation of above 3.0 per cent over the next three years, and lower for those expecting it to be within a range of 1.0 to 3.0 per cent over the same period. How do these expectations differ across regions, employment status, income levels, age groups, and housing status? What factors influence these expectations? And why do they differ by region?
