  • This report analyzes and provides a forecast of tourism activity in Canada and in each for the 10 provinces and Yukon for 2012 to 2017.
  • For each province and Yukon, the forecast estimates domestic tourism demand from the perspective of business and pleasure travellers, as well as international tourism demand from the perspective of U.S. and overseas travellers.
  • Overall, growth in overnight domestic travel in Canada has been curtailed by soft income growth and high indebtedness this year, while growth travel from Europe and the U.S. has also been weak.
  • Travel to and within Canada is forecast to strengthen next year and over the following few years as economic conditions improve in mature global markets, as a higher share of a visitors arrive from emerging-market countries, and as Canada hosts a variety of major events and conferences.

Domestic demand for overnight travel in Canada is expected increase at a modest 1.4 per cent pace this year. The slight downward revision from the 1.8 per cent growth forecast in our spring 2013 Travel Markets Outlook is partly due to more modest expectations for domestic pleasure travel.
