  • This report analyzes and provides a forecast for tourism activity in Canada and nine metropolitan areas—Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa–Gatineau, Montréal, Québec City, and Halifax—for the period from 2012 to 2017.
  • For each city, the forecast estimates domestic tourism demand from the perspective of both business and pleasure travellers and international tourism demand from the perspective of both U.S. and overseas travellers.
  • Overall, the forecast confirms that global economic concerns will weigh on the pace of growth in tourism demand over the near term. While stronger economic growth in Western Canada and in emerging markets will bolster tourism prospects to varying degrees, government austerity measures throughout Canada will restrain the pace of tourism growth in many Canadian cities.
  • Stronger growth prospects are forecast over the longer-term for most cities, particularly those where tourism infrastructure is expanding or those that are planning to host major events.
