Document Highlights

  • The leading indicator of industry profitability posted another minor gain in April. While this is the fifth consecutive monthly increase, the gains have been so small that the index remains well below its most recent peak, reached last June.
  • The number of industries recording declines in their indexes has been falling steadily since the beginning of the year. Of the 49 industries covered, only 6 posted a decline this time, down from 18 in January.
