The monthly Index of Consumer Confidence is constructed from responses to four attitudinal questions posed to a random sample of Canadian households. The latest results are based on over 2,000 telephone interviews conducted in mid-February 2004.

Consumer confidence slid 3.8 index points to 121.4 in February, erasing most of January’s gains. Although the index remains at a high level, consumers were not as bullish about future job prospects and were less sanguine about big-ticket purchases.
