The Index of Consumer Attitudes is produced four times a year from responses to four attitudinal questions posed to a random sample of Canadian households. The summer survey was conducted in early June 2002.
Document Highlights
The Consumer Confidence Index rose to 128.4 points in the second quarter, its third consecutive quarterly increase. Current economic conditions have consumers feeling very good about their own personal situations, and they are backing this up with very strong buying intentions. Better-than-expected economic performance has boosted consumer confidence in all regions except Quebec, with British Columbia recording the largest increase.
