Document Highlights

Nature-based climate solutions can help Canada to achieve its net-zero goals. Our wealth of natural assets means we could be a world leader in this area, but we need to quickly expand the number of sustainable nature-based projects. How do we do that?

New research shows that the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of land has the potential to deliver up to one-third of Canada’s global greenhouse gas reduction targets by 2030. The Government of Canada has pledged nearly $5 billion over the next 10 years to support nature-based solutions, but the public sector cannot do it alone. Scaling up solutions requires massive private sector investment.

This issue briefing, Backing Nature, Mobilizing Private Investment for Nature-Based Climate Reduction, addresses some of the challenges of ramping up the required solutions and some steps to take right now.
