The Index of Consumer Attitudes is produced four times a year from responses to four attitudinal questions posed to a random sample of Canadian households. The winter survey was conducted in the first two weeks of March.
Document Highlights
The Consumer Confidence Index increased more than 15 points in March, stimulated by signs of economic recovery on both sides of the border. The index level has risen to 126.7, its highest level since 1998.
- The rising trend in confidence followed a sharp rebound in December and was observed across all regions of Canada.
- Stonger optimism regarding job prospects was once again the driving force behind the current increase.
