Healthy Youth: Why Employers Should Care and What They Can Do presents the business case for investing in the health of youth and the communities in which they operate. The report demonstrates how investing in selected socio-economic determinants of health that affect youth—including income, social support and connectedness, education and literacy, health behaviours, and access to health care—can positively impact the reputation and bottom-line performance of businesses and organizations. Five profiles serve to illustrate why and how employers will benefit from investing in the health of youth.

The report is part of the research program of the Conference Board’s Roundtable on Socio-Economic Determinants of Health. The objective of the Roundtable is to stimulate collaborative approaches to achieving better health outcomes for Canadians. The Roundtable makes the case for why businesses that care about their bottom lines should care about the comprehensive well-being of their workforce and their communities.
