This case study examines Technocell Canada’s training program at its paper plant in Drummondville, Quebec. When Technocell purchased this plant in 2001, most of the workforce was not familiar with the materials or the technology required to produce the high-quality, specialized décor paper the company required. In addition, the employees were lacking in basic skills. Technocell introduced its training program to ensure the company could become more productive and profitable as soon as possible, and to ensure the plant and its products met Technocell’s high standards.
The introduction of the training program was motivating, and instilled a mood for change which has had a positive impact on all company activities. Management believes that the program’s well-grounded activities and common goals are the keys to its success. Future plans to improve employees’ knowledge of plant operations will facilitate quick and efficient integration of new products and technology.
