Document Highlights

This report compares Canada’s commitment to innovation with nine comparator countries—the United States, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Finland, Sweden and Australia.

This report largely captures the following Call to Action:

  1. Provide business leadership and a corporate culture of innovation
  2. Invest in learning and skills
  3. Invest more in R&D
  4. Ensure competitiveness of the tax system and rationalize incentive programs
  5. Commercialize in the global marketplace

Altogether these five actions serve as a blueprint for placing Canada on the world map in terms of innovation capacity. They would act as the springboard that is clearly needed to launch us into innovation opportunities and an environment where Canadian firms would have a much greater chance of thriving, rather than merely surviving.
