The TD Forum on Canada’s Standard of Living brought together leaders from business, academia, labour, and the not-for-profit sector to discuss concrete actions that Canada can take to meet our standard of living challenge. This is a summary of those discussions which took place in Ottawa October 7-8, 2002.
Document Highlights
Broadly, the discussions in the TD Forum fell into two categories: what are the interim objectives Canadians should strive for; and what are the means of getting Canadians to buy into striving for these objectives.
The focus of the discussions centered around five main themes:
- Leadership and attitudes.
- Human capital.
- Smart social policy.
- Strengthening the national socio-economic framework.
- Redefining Canada’s external relationships, especially with the United States.
