The TD Forum on Canada’s Standard of Living brought together leaders from business, academia, labour, and the not-for-profit sector to discuss concrete actions that Canada can take to meet our standard of living challenge. This is a summary of those discussions which took place in Ottawa October 7-8, 2002.

Document Highlights

Broadly, the discussions in the TD Forum fell into two categories: what are the interim objectives Canadians should strive for; and what are the means of getting Canadians to buy into striving for these objectives.

The focus of the discussions centered around five main themes:

  • Leadership and attitudes.
  • Human capital.
  • Smart social policy.
  • Strengthening the national socio-economic framework.
  • Redefining Canada’s external relationships, especially with the United States.
