The Conference Board of Canada’s Report Card on Canada and the World Economic Forum’s World Competitiveness Report show that Canada has been a weak innovation performer for decades. Several studies have concluded that these problems stem largely from the weak innovation performance of Canadian businesses. Part of that can be attributed to the slow rate at which Canadian firms adopt and implement information and communication technologies (ICTs) that support higher productivity and innovation. Although individual firms’ circumstances will be different, this briefing should help all firms identify the challenges and risks they might face, and assist in the scanning, selecting, planning, communicating, team-building, and measuring activities that increase the likelihood of transformation success.
