- The lifting of all travel and public health restrictions in July by New Brunswick’s provincial government will give a much-needed boost to the province’s tourism sector that has been hit hard by the pandemic.
- Domestic visits to the province for business purposes will not return to pre-pandemic levels before 2025, as many businesses will continue working remotely or will hold virtual conferences.
- New Brunswick’s tourism sector will find it difficult to return to pre-pandemic levels, as it faces competition from larger travel markets as well as from the other Atlantic provinces.
- The tourism sector lost half a million jobs during the pandemic. It will therefore be difficult to operate at full capacity when international travel restrictions are eased this summer.
- With COVID-19 cases rising globally since the start of August and the with emergence of new variants, it is not yet entirely clear what the impact will be on New Brunswick’s tourism sector in the second half of the year and beyond.
