Addressing the risks of an increasingly complex and global food supply, while also supporting the success of the Canadian food industry in a competitive global market place is a challenging task. This report uses a performance-based framework to explore the impact of food regulation on food industry performance. It provides a conceptual overview of how food regulations affect food companies’ value creation processes. It then explores ways in which the food regulatory system and the food production system work together to achieve the outcome of a safe, nutritious food supply. The report concludes by exploring options for improving the way regulations and company systems could interact to achieve shared goals.
