Document Highlights

Measuring the success of community engagement remains challenging in Canada’s federal impact assessment process. Decisions about major natural resource or infrastructure projects can affect the daily lives of people in local communities. Meaningful community engagement allows those who are most affected by a project to participate in the decisions that directly impact them.

Indigenous communities, public stakeholders, local communities, project proponents, and anyone developing a community engagement plan as part of the federal impact assessment process should take advantage of usingStrong Engagement, Strong Outcomes: An Engagement Indicators Playbook.

The playbook is a tool to support the success of community engagement activities on major projects. This tool can help communities choose the project impacts and community engagement activities they would like to track and monitor. It can also help proponents and communities work together more effectively to co-create a community engagement plan that facilitates meaningful engagement.
