Document Highlights

Steve Maguire and Cynthia Hardy present the second part of their two-part article, New Approaches to Organizing Risk. (Part One can be found in the Spring 2018 edition of Risk Watch.) In this subsequent article, Maguire and Hardy offer a critique of how the dominant discourse of risk stands in the way of thinking critically about risk.

Readers of Risk Watch have told us that they would like to read interviews with CEOs to gain insights into how enterprise risk management is seen from the C-Suite. In response to this interest, Risk Watch interviewed Angela Brown, CEO of Moneris—a Canadian company that is a leading payment provider in North America.

Gareth Byatt, an Australia-based risk consultant, and Chris Corless, a practitioner with some 20 years in risk audit, joined forces to author a piece focusing on some of the key ways in which sound risk management practices can help prevent risk failures in infrastructure projects.

For this issue’s “Book Review,” Betty Simkins tackles Nassim Taleb’s most recent book, Skin in the Game, which may be the controversial author’s most provocative book yet. Though the book is a hard read at times, Betty highly recommends it.
