Document Highlights
Global pressures are forcing corporations to think differently about their societal impact. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become a vital part of a comprehensive approach to business success. This report analyses the self-assessed CSR management practices of 53 large Canadian companies, and reviews the public reporting practices of Canada’s 300 largest corporations. Using the Corporate Responsibility Assessment Tool developed by the Conference Board and Imagine, the report examines the performance of Canadian corporations with respect to: governance and management systems; human resource management; community investment and involvement; environment, health and safety; and human rights. The National Corporate Social Responsibility Report: Managing Risks, Leveraging Opportunities considers the steps that corporations are taking to manage their CSR performance, both at home and abroad. It looks at their areas of strength, areas for improvement, the risks and opportunities which arise from current pressures, and what pressures will redefine CSR and challenge corporate competitiveness in the future.
