The monthly Index of Consumer Confidence is constructed from responses to four attitudinal questions posed to a random sample of Canadian households. The latest results are based on over 2,000 telephone interviews conducted in the first half of September 2004.

On the strength of a more optimistic outlook, the Consumer Confidence Index climbed to 122.9 in September, up 1.6 points from August. While Canadians were more upbeat about their family budgets and job prospects six months from now, they were somewhat less enthusiastic about making major purchases.
