In May 2014, the Conference Board of Canada’s Centre for National Security conducted a study tour to New York City to learn from those who braved Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Sandy gave rise to important lessons for Canadian disaster preparedness planning, community recovery, and the creative development of solutions in support of survivors. While the response to Sandy demonstrated that much progress has been made since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, it also revealed new governance-related challenges.
