Born and raised in Mauritius, Joana immigrated in Canada in 2012. Joana has a Bachelor of Science with honor in Sociology from the University of Mauritius. Joana began her career in humanities and government sector in 2008 working for the most marginalized and vulnerable groups of the Mauritian Society.
Before joining COR, Joana has worked in immigration and settlement of newcomers and refugees in the francophone community and later joined Inclusion Regina where she wore several hats. In 2019, COR and Inclusion Regina merged together, Joana began working at COR for the 4to40 Initiative in partnership with the University of Regina~ Campus for All as the Employment Partnership Consultant. Joana is passionate about helping and advocating for diverse, marginalized and vulnerable groups of the society and is also passionate about helping people to embrace equity in their daily lives.
Her dedication and determination to work with people with intellectual disabilities and complex disabilities have been motivated by her own personal life. She grew up in a poor extended family with closed family members experiencing disabilities. She is a firm believer in empowering people through the gentle teaching. She believes in networking and in building healthy relationship, which in turn can benefit the whole society.
