Nafisa Sarwath

Research Associate, Indigenous & Northern Communities

About

Nafisa is a Research Associate II with the Indigenous and Northern Communities team at the Conference Board of Canada. She has a significant background in Indigenous focused research, community land use planning, mapping, and youth empowerment. Through her doctoral research she has developed a series of community-based research projects with the Cree Nation of Wemindji (in the Eeyou Istchee/James Bay region of Northern Quebec).

Past Work Experience

In her professional career, Nafisa worked as a traditional land use researcher and geomatics expert with the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK). She has also worked as a researcher with the University of Waterloo, and as an intern with the Centre for Natural Resource Studies in Bangladesh.

Academic Background

She is currently completing the final stages of her Ph.D. in Geography at Concordia University.
