Born and raised in Hong Kong, Nicholas has a degree in communications and psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He worked at Sing Tao Daily, a Chinese-language newspaper in Toronto before joining the Toronto Star in 1997. He has been writing about immigration, refugee and diversity issues for the paper for almost two decades. Nicholas has been honoured with the Online Journalism Awards and his work has been recognized by Urban Alliance on Race Relations and the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers.
