This report analyzes and provides a forecast of tourism activity in Canada and in nine metropolitan areas—Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa–Gatineau, Montréal, Québec City, and Halifax—for 2012 to 2017.

For each city, the forecast estimates domestic tourism demand from the perspective of business and pleasure travellers, as well as international tourism demand from the perspective of U.S. and overseas travellers.

Overall, growth in overnight domestic travel in Canada has been curtailed by soft income growth and high indebtedness this year, while growth travel from Europe and the U.S. has also been weak.

Travel to and within Canada is forecast to strengthen next year and over the following few years as economic conditions improve in mature global markets, as a higher share of a visitors arrive from emerging-market countries, and as Canada hosts a variety of major events and conferences.
