Recent economic indicators, which had been uniformly positive in recent months, took a turn for the worse in early fall. Given the huge rallies in such key areas as consumer confidence and manufacturing activity, however, some of the pullback was expected. The pullback is a reality check, and it reinforces our view that the recovery, while still on track, will be weak.
