This inaugural report of the Risk Management Case Study Series examines the City of Brampton’s new strategic model planning process and explores why it is one to emulate-in whole or in part.
Document Highlights
The City of Brampton has developed a new strategic planning model with many outstanding elements that set it apart from other models.
First, it is a continuous improvement process that has no definitive completion date. It involves all departments within the organization, and most importantly, partners with the City’s Council, citizens and stakeholders.
Second, it embraces the highest principles of governance and quality management. It marries two separate disciplines so that a well-balanced and organized process is established for strategic planning purposes.
Third, because the model is well organized into a project management structure, parts of it can be integrated or customized into an existing organization’s model. In this sense, the model is quite dynamic and versatile.
Fourth, the model demonstrates how the City’s risk assessment program helps strengthen its commitment to organizational development.
And last, but definitely not least, up-to-date technology facilitates the processing of information and the decision-making process, particularly with regard to the management of risk.
This model, rooted as it is in a framework of governance and quality management, provides the City of Brampton with a leading edge for innovation, excellence and continuous improvement.
