This briefing takes stock of Canada’s recent progress in the transition to clean energy. It looks at the results of the 2011 Energy and Mines Ministers’ Conference, and the extent to which provincial and federal governments are leading efforts to advance clean energy in Canada. All Canadians would benefit from a shared clean energy strategy to promote the expansion of renewable energy markets, mitigate the environmental impact of energy production and consumption, and support the development of clean energy technologies and services for the global market. The briefing also examines the progress achieved thus far in three key energy sectors—power generation, transportation, and hydrocarbons production—and what still needs to be done.
