Document Highlights

Under the auspices of its Business & Energy in the 21st Century program, The Conference Board conducted a survey of senior executives to determine how businesses currently view and manage energy. Questions answered by the 103 responding companies, which represent a broad range of manufacturing and commercial sectors, covered all aspects of energy management.

The fourfold objective of this survey is to understand:

  • the importance of energy in corporate operations;
  • at what level and in what offices responsibility for energy management currently is assigned;
  • what role (if any) energy plays in companies’ central strategic planning; and
  • the extent to which companies are reporting their progress in energy productivity.

These survey results and the three illustrations of corporate energy policies in the accompanying case studies serve as a baseline for current and future components of the Business & Energy in the 21st Century program.
