Responding to Hurricanes: Lessons for Emergency Preparedness

It’s been five years since the U.S. has been hit by a major storm. But that doesn’t mean that companies should be complacent. The experiences of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Ike have demonstrated the need for businesses to build more robust preparedness plans and revisit their emergency “checklists” with renewed urgency. Even as the public sector response evolves, companies should be prepared to implement their emergency preparedness and business continuity plans without the expectation of assistance from the government including evacuation, asset protection, and recovery efforts.
