To find out how Canadian organizations are responding to the recent tsunami disaster, the Conference Board conducted a survey. Its results are summarized in this briefing, which is intended to help others consider how they might also contribute.
Document Highlights
The recent tsunami disaster in Asia has spurred Canadian organizations to contribute in many ways to the ongoing relief efforts. To find out how they are responding, the Conference Board conducted a survey, and this briefing summarizes its findings.
It finds that Canadian organizations have, indeed, stepped up to the plate. They are either providing cash donations to relief agencies and/or matching employees’ donations. In addition, almost one in four are making in-kind contributions by providing needed goods and services and facilitating customer and employee giving. Others are providing technological support and expertise, as well as enhanced employee assistance, particularly to those with employees or family in affected areas. One company is even committing funds to help individuals from affected areas to settle in Canada.
This briefing also offers guidelines to organizations that are planning to respond on how best to do so, and outlines the elements of a disaster response plan.
