Document Highlights

The Quebec economy will expand by 1.8 per cent this year and 1.6 per cent in 2020.

The weakness in growth compared with 2017–18 is due mainly to slower household spending.

Investment in machinery and equipment will remain solid as firms in Quebec attempt to boost their productivity.

Labour shortages will continue to be a problem for organizations due to the ongoing retirement of the baby boomers.

Quebec should be able to retain its fiscal surplus, although that will be more challenging given the government’s plan to increase payments to families with children and to provide firms with incentives to boost their investment spending.
