This executive summary provides an overview of our sixth Performance and Potential report.
Performance and Potential 2001–2002 underscores the theme, first introduced in 1996, that it is impossible for a society to achieve its potential without sound economic policy and sound social policy. These two broad areas of policy are interconnected and interdependent and feed off each other.
Document Highlights
This report has two main purposes:
- to provide evidence by which to assess our social and economic performance in a comprehensive and balanced manner.
- to help Canadians understand the underpinnings of their high quality of life and the choices to be made as they invest in their future, and, at the same time, decide how they will spend their current income.
To this end, we issue a Call for Action, which outlines the five areas we feel must be addressed to maintain and build upon the success of our country.
