While it remains attractive to businesses, Montréal continues to stagnate with respect to innovation. And to continue to enjoy ec onomic growth, it will have to pay particular attention to developing its human capital. Yet with its relatively affordable housing and alternative modes of transport, Montréal’s quality of life gives it a significant competitive advantage over other cities. Though having had an excellent year in 2017 in macroeconomic terms, Quebec’s metropolis will still have to keep working to catch up with the other North American cities it is compared with.

Montréal continues to show good economic results. Its rank is improving in some respects, but stagnating on the innovation score. It will have to build on its strengths and—especially—develop its human capital to enjoy continued economic growth.
