Most Canadian census metropolitan areas can expect their job markets to remain healthy in the coming months, according to The Conference Board of Canada’s Help-Wanted Index. Specifically, near-term employment prospects are up in 19 CMAs, stable in 1, and down in just 7. The labour market looks particularly healthy in Ontario, where 10 of 11 CMAs are showing upbeat prospects. A similar story is playing out in Quebec—prospects are up in 4 of 5 CMAs. On the other hand, prospects are mixed in Atlantic Canada and in the West. In Atlantic Canada, prospects are up in Halifax, but down in both St. John’s and Saint John. In the West, prospects are up in 4 CMAs, stable in 1, and down in 3.
