The monthly Metropolitan Housing Starts publication provides the recent trends in housing starts for 29 metropolitan areas and expectations for starts over both the short and long term.

Document Highlights

There are five CMAs with both positive short- and long-term expectations, two fewer than last month.

Seven CMAs, including Oshawa, Toronto, and Hamilton, now have negative expectations for both the short and and the long term.

The CMAs with the biggest year-over-year declines in housing starts in April were Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, Hamilton, and Saskatoon.

Thunder Bay had the biggest year-over-year increase in housing starts last month, the second month in a row.
