- The Conference Board of Canada’s Leading Indicator of Industry Profitability increased to 108.3 in October from a revised 108.2 in September. The industry indexes also performed well, with 40 of 49 industries seeing their short-term profit outlook improve.
- The overall index was supported by an improving labour market, which offset the drop in equity and commodity prices. Higher payrolls and lower unemployment also supported the outlook for the service and retail sectors.
