Rogers’s July 2022 outage was seismic for industry, regulators, and consumers.

Canada’s cellular telephone market is internationally protected and highly concentrated – a key reason why Canadians pay a large amount of money for their cell phones.

High industry concentration could also mean that Rogers’s bid for Shaw may not be approved by regulators.

We expect industry output to rise 1.9 per cent this year and 1.4 per cent in 2023.

Telecommunications employment has risen for two consecutive years, but in 2021 was still down almost a fifth from 2012.
