The aim of our research is to explore how Indigenous trusts are managing their investments to achieve their short- and long-term goals. In addition to a review of key materials and literature on Indigenous trusts, we recently interviewed 16 experts – eight representatives from Indigenous trusts and eight subject matter experts such as trust service providers or financial managers. The results of our study highlight the enormous potential that Indigenous trusts hold for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities seeking greater financial autonomy and long-term prosperity.

How much in assets do Indigenous trusts across Canada manage? What benefits do forming partnerships with other communities have? How can governments and corporate Canada help Indigenous trusts build capacity?
