The monthly Index of Consumer Confidence is constructed from responses to four attitudinal questions posed to a random sample of Canadian households. The latest results are based on over 2,000 telephone interviews conducted in early October 2004.

Consumer confidence slipped 2.6 points in October to 120.4, more than offsetting September’s gain of 1.6 points. Canadians seemed less enthusiastic about making big-ticket purchases and reported a decline in confidence about the future of their family finances.
