Surprise employment and wage gains to end the year have bolstered consumer confidence heading into 2018 and helped to make 2017 a standout year for the index. The Conference Board of Canada’s Index of Consumer Confidence posted its second-largest percentage gain ever. Improvements were observed across the board, with the average positive response higher in all categories compared with 2016, only the second time this has occurred since the index began.
