In the second quarter of 2004, the Index of Business Confidence maintained its recent strength, rising to 145.6, up marginally from 144.8 in the previous quarter. The index remained relatively steady over the last two quarters, but it is up 36 index points from the level recorded one year ago. Respondents remain favourable about the direction of their firms’ financial position and their outlook for investment, and they indicate improvement in their firms’ capacity utilization.
