As one of the top guardians of company reputation and risk, the general counsel has an important role to play by ensuring that cyber risk is managed as a strategic risk. This overview examines cyber security breaches at large companies and offers recommendations for preventing these crises and coping with the aftermath if they do happen. Our research shows that in best-practice companies, cyber risk governance has migrated from IT to a multifunctional approach with active oversight of the board and C-suite, including the chief legal officer.
