  • Positive Growth—Computer and electronic product manufacturing output is poised to rise by 0.9 per cent in 2017, its second straight annual increase. The gains represent the first time the industry has expanded in consecutive years in over a decade.
  • Investment—The rapid new development of computer products has presented an opportunity for firms to develop new, innovative products. Thus, although the industry’s expansion has been lacklustre in recent years, firms continue to invest in their operations.
  • Communications Equipment—The communications equipment sector continues to contract due to stiff foreign competition in the manufacturing of items such as mobile phones and broadcasting equipment. However, recovering investment in telecommunications will provide some reprieve for the sector, helping to support modest growth in the outer years of the forecast.
