Macroeconomic Outlook—The global economy disappointed in 2016 but is expected to improve going forward. Global airline profits are under pressure from rising non-fuel costs and stagnant prices. However, profits remain at historically high levels and conditions remain favourable for investment in new aircraft.

Supply Chain and Trade Exposure—Canada’s aerospace industry is highly integrated and exposed to trade, mostly with the United States. Given the upcoming NAFTA renegotiations, the industry must seek a solution that minimizes the disruption on cross-border supply chains. At the same time, the industry needs to continue to expand and diversify its customer base.

Single-Aisle Aircraft Market Outlook—With a current estimated global market share below 5 per cent for the C Series, and with an ongoing need to diversify, Canada’s aerospace industry can lay the foundation for long-term growth by expanding its order book in Asia and other fastgrowth markets.
