  • Sales—Industry sales rose for a second consecutive year after declining for more than a decade. Higher prices have contributed to this trend. Revenues are expected to continue on a slow and steady growth path going forward.
  • Demand—Domestic demand improved in 2015 compared with previous years and is projected to continue to grow over the forecast period, driven by increasing expenditures by both Canadian consumers and businesses.
  • Costs—Industry costs went up in 2015, due mainly to an increase in material prices. Over the forecast, cost pressures will be driven by growing staffing requirements and higher wages, but also by increasing financing costs as the prime lending rate is expected to increase after 2017.
